Editor's Note
It is a matter of great pleasure that the Complete PrakritSanskrit Word-Index of Isibhāsiyāim (Rṣibhāṣitāni), an ancient Senior Jain Canonical Work in Ardhamāgadhi is being published by the Prakrit Text Society, Ahmedabad. For that our Association Prakrit Jain Vidya Vikas Fund is highly thankful to the PTS and its President and Secretary Pt. D.D.Malvania and Prof. H.C.Bhayani who accepted our offer to publish the matter which was in the form of hand-written manuscript. The exhaustive Word-Index of this text was prepared along with those of other senior texts of the Jain (Amg.) canon for the specific purpose of tracing the oldest Amg. vocabulary and archaic morphological forms to serve as an aid to linguistically re-editing the oldest portion of the Jain canonical work, i.e. Acaranga. The word to word index-cards that were prepared by us (i.e. the PJVV Fund) would have perished unused and our labour would have been of no benefit to future researchers in the field of Middle Indo-Aryan languages, had the PTS not taken up generously the work of publishing the same. We hope that this Prakrit-Sanskrit Word to Word Index would be helpful to the scholars of Indo-Aryan linguistics.
I am thankful to my students Dr. Priti Mehta and Miss Shobhna R.Shah who assisted in preparing the cards and specially the latter for the additional work of going through the proofs of this
text.
In this Word-Index the first word is in Prakrit from the text and the next word opposite to it is its Sanskrit rendering. Thereafter the first figure indicates the chapter of the text (ed. W. Schubring, L. D. Indology, 1974) and the figures following it are of the line number of that page and in this context if the same figure is repeated then it means that the concerned word occurs in the same line more than once. If there is a letter . following it then it indicates the verse number of that particular chapter of the text.
We are also grateful to the L.D.Institute of Indology and its authorities for permitting us to make use of the text of Isibhäsiyāim published by them.
