JAIN HISTORY FORGOTTEN LINKS
Surajmal Bobra The first forgotten link is the name of this country which was Bharat varsha it was promoted by its first emperor Bharat, the eldest son of Rishabhadeva who taught art of living to humanity. The second forgotten link is the History of India. It was written based on wrong concepts in last three centuries. British Historians ignored the natural flow of the civilization of the country and gave wrong pircutre of India. In this process Jain History has also been victimised.
Historical writings in India started in the 18th century as a result of estabilishment of the rule of the English East India company. In 1784 the Asiatic society of Bengal was founded which made significant contribution. Interest in Indian culture was aroused as number of European Universities where several scholars worked on Sanskrit and related subjects. The first printed edition of the four Vedas were brought out for the first time by German scholars.
Herman Jacobi published the translation of 'Kalpa Sutra' the important Jain record. Most alarming is that many hand written manuscripts were taken away by the scholars of western camp.
James Mill was utalitarian, He wrote History of British India which was published in 1817. He divided Indian History in to three parts, Hindu, Muslim and British. He was critical of Indian culture which he called to be barbarious and anti-rational.
According to him Indian civilization showed no concern for political values and India had been ruled by a series of despotic rulers. This book was prescribed at the Haileybury College and other Institutions where English officers were given training before they were sent to India. Such views must have effected the minds of these officers against India. They also wrote biased History.
These Indian Historians ignored the facts that Indian culture had not been borrowed From Greece or any other country. The people of India were civilized where as those of Europe were barbarians.
