III. 4. 1.17—: the stafa gerilgeasca EN TEIGITTERA I 3 HARITTI राजपुत्राणां शतैः सहाध्वर्दू राज्ञां ब्रह्मा सूतग्रामणीनां होता क्षतृसंगृहीतॄणामुद्गाता । Bh reads प्रोक्षति (373 B1) instead of utafa and later " (123 B2) instead of rà:. The plural were is correct in consideration of the plural pia: and the mention of four priests beginning with the Adhvaryu. Later the instrumental singular da as recorded in Bh is also correct. The total number of princes participating in the sprinkling of the horse in company with the four chief priests is four hundred. There are four chief priests and each of them is to be accompanied by a hundred princes. Therefore, the first occurrence of sata is in plural and the second occurrence is in singular. cf. Māns'S. IX. 2. 1. 32. ___III. 4. 1. 35-संस्थितासु परिप्लवमाचष्टे । Bh (124 A4) has परिप्लव instead of yfiya cf. ApS'S. XX. 6. 7.
III. 4. 1. 57—tegratsfrag gafarrefst: utggalafya: I Bh (124 A10) reads ugGraiafya: which is preferable MānS'S, IX. 2. 2. 22 has pautudāravau. cf. also naitudārava.
III. 4. 2. 9—yda nifur Hregnet 778782 397 aldaketar: The ending portion is corrupt. Bh ends this sūtra with Peletal which is equally obscure.
III. 4. 2. 14 अर्बुदाय स्वाहा ॥ Bh (125 B3) reads न्यर्बुदाय स्वाहा which is correct : cf. TS. VII. 2. 20. 1; TBr. III. 8. 16. 3; KS (As’va) II. 10.
III. 4. 3. 1-इत्यश्वस्य ग्रीवासु रुक्मं प्रतिमुच्य etc. Bh (126 A3) reads प्रतिमुंचति which is found also in Māns’S. IX. 2. 3. 7. However the ApS'S. which has much influenced the Varss. reads प्रतिमुच्य.
III. 4.3.3—3GGR4Y5ufs etc. Bh (126 A5) reads 3G MARY CHUR. Also in the next sutra Bh reads अवरुन्धन्ति.
III. 4. 3. 21-Between the 21st and 22nd sūtras Bh reads : tai a4 3te de frete JR 4-fthiday fashch40fa I Both the 21st sūtra and the additional matter as reproduced above end with 3410fa. Hence it is obvious that B and N missed the subsequent portion through haplography. The Bh-portion is corrupt. MS. III. 14.1-21 records lists of forest-animals to be procured in connection with the Aśvamedha. In these lists one comes across the words are at the end of Ms. III. 14. 10. Besides these, there
