स्व: मोहनलाल बाठिया स्मृति ग्रन्थ
Mohanlal Banthiaji's contribution to Jainism is immense and he should be remembered by the Jain scholars as long as the world endures. Thave. therefore, become very glad when I heard that Banthiaji's admirers and friends, will-wishers and scholars had ultimately decided, though a litile belated, to publish a volume in his honour in order to commemorate his name in the annals of intellectual scholarship. Banthiaji was a calm and quiet person who did not show off his scholarship publicly. He used to work at home and collect material for cyclopaedias. Such types of persons are very rare in these days. He was a thorough master on Jainism and a prolific writer on many aspects of Jaintic studies. Though professionally he was an advocate, his scholarship on Jainism was of no mean order. As I was personally associated with him for a long time before my departure for England in the middle of the sixties, I know what type of scholarship he had in his possesion. Actually, abeunt studia in mores, "Studies become (his) ways of life."
This Volume has two sections: one in Hindi and the other in English, The Hindi section has several parts. It deals with his life-story and his works, and also the reminiscences from his friends and admirers. The Hindi section starts with the blessings from Gurudev Ganadhipati shri Tulsi and from Acarya Mahaprajnaji. There are other personalities who have also written some of their past recollections with him. Then follow some articles written by scholars focusing on different aspects of Jainism. The English section also deals with some articles which are not only good in quality, but also new in outlook. We are grateful to all his admirers, friends and scholars who have contributed articles for this Volume.
I must acknowledge with thanks the help I have received from the authority concerned. In preparing this Volume Shri Kewal Chand Nahata, the Prabandha editor of this Volume, has undertaken a painstaking labour for the success of this Commemorative Volume. It is he who has not only edited the Volume, but also has kept his eyes open for the arrangement and betterment of the book. If he had not undertaken this hazardous task, the book would not have seen the light of the day. We must thank him for his continud endeavour for the publication of this Volume.
Finally, I can humbly say that if this Volume is appreciated and used by scholars for their research purposes, I shall consider my endeavour wellrewarded and the desires of his well-wishers will also be fulfilled.
