the date of Kural? It is common knowledge
that Kural is quoted in Silappadikāram of
history of religious movements நோக்கி யுணரலாகும்.
in South India :--
"மோக்ஷ மெய்தற்குரிய மார்க் இதனால் 'படிமை' யென்பது கததில், பதினான்கு நிலைகள் ஜைனசமய வழக்குச் சொல்லென் உள்ளனவாக ஜைன சமயத் பதும், அச்சொல் தவவொழுக் என்றதனை யுணர்த்துதல்

தவர்கள் கருதுகின்றார்கள். இந் நிலைகளைக்குணஸ்தானகங்களென்று அவ்வொரு சமய நூலின் கண்ணன் கூறுவர். இவற்றுள் முதலைந்து றிப் பிறசமய நூல்களில் இல்லை நிலைகளும் இல்லறத்தோர் துற யென்பதும் தெளியக் கிடக்கின் வறத்தோரென்ற இருதிறத்தார்க் றன. கும் உரியன. ஆறு முதல் ஏனை நிலைகள் சுறவறத்தோர்க்கு மட்டு முரியன. இல்லறத்தில் நிற்பார் முதலைந்து நிலைகளும் கைவரப் பெற்ற பின்னர், உண்மைத்தீர்த் தங்கரர் மாட்டும், உண்மையாசா ரியர் மாட்டும், உண்மை நூலின்
ஆகவே 'பல்புகழ் நிறுத்தபடி மையோன்' என்று சிறப்பிக்கப் பெற்ற தொல்காப்பியனார் ஜைன சமயத்தவராவ ரென்பதும்,அதன் கண் இல்லற நெறி நின்று சிறந்த தவ வொழுக்கங்களை யனுஷ்டித்த மாட்டும், துளங்காதபக்திவைத்து, வராரென்பதும் உணரலாகும்." பஞ்ச அதிசாரங்களையும் நீத்துப் பன்னிரண்டு விரதங்களையும் அனு ஷ்டித்தல் வேண்டும். இங்ஙனம் நின்றோரினும் மிக்குச் சிறப்பெய் த விரும்பும் இல்லறத்தோர் பதி னொரு தவ்வொழுக்கங்களை மேற் கொள்வர். இவ்வொழுக்கங்கள் 'படிமா என்று பிராகிருதத்திற் பெயர் பெறும். 'தவம்' என்ற சொல் இல்லறத்தார்க்கும் உரிய தாதல் 'நற்றவஞ் செய்வார்க்கிடம் தவம் செய்வார்க்கும் அஃதிடம் என்ற (சீவகசிந்-77) மேற்கோள்
