INTRODUCTION
Economic factors have been the main guiding factors in the history of the world from time immemorial. Unfortunately, the material at our disposal representing the economic conditions in India is fragmentary and hence it is not possible to present a systematic account of every fact relating to the economic life of the ancient Indian people. Nevertheless, whatever meagre account we could gather is given here in the hope it will proye valuable.
