Such is Prof. Huxley's interpretation and presentation of the law of karna and metempsychoses in Indian philosophy. But we differ from him in as much as neither the interpretation, nor the presentation, on that account, is correct. For we must have to draw a line of distinction between a man and his conditions According to our philosophy a man may, indeed, be roughly taken as the embodiment of intellectual, spiritual and moral (Fo'w a fra ) essences which Huxley sums up by the word 'character.' And the man as such is not different from the sumtotal of the the energies summed up by 'character' as just explained. But then there
