Vasudeva lIindi3-on the exploits of Vasudeva, the father of Krşņa is a Brhatkathā divided into Lamba bha )kas. The writers of the 12th and 13th centuries praise Bhadrabāhu (3rd century B.C.) for writing this fine and voluininous work containing 125,000 Granthas: “I salute Bhadrabāhu who composed the life of Vasudeva full of very interesting stories, in 125,000 Granthas”4. (Säntināthacaritra by Devacandra, guru of Hemācārya, composed in Samvat 1160.) The MS of the work in the Bhandars mentions Sanghadāsa as the author of the first khaṇda and Dharmasena as that of the second. The granthāgra of both is 28000. I, however, obtained information that a MS of the whole work consisting of about 2000 folia and containing 125000 granthas was sold away by a Yati, to a jeweller of Calcutta for a sum of Rs. 1000/-. This may be the original work of Bhadrabāhu, while the MSS in the Bhandars may be epitomes of the larger work.
