________________ ( 42 ) I now proceed to describe briefly the rare and important MSS. in the Bhandars. Sanskrit. LOGIC AND Philosophy Hetubindu-tīkā-_a commentary on Hetubindu of the author of Nyāyabindu. The MS. contains both the text and the commentary. As some portion of the concluding folio of the MS. has been efaced, the name of the commentator cannot be read; but from the Tibetan translation of the work, it is known that Vinītadova (700 A. D.) is the author of 1setubindu-tīkā. This palm-leaf MS. restores to us the Sanskrit original of this important Buddhistic work which was supposed to be lost. The MS. which is copied in Samvat (10 or 11 )-75 is written in such a script that even a skilful scribe having practice in writing palm-leaf MSS. would not be able to make out the letters correctly. Tattrasangraha---an examination of the various philosophica schools of India. The author is Sāntarakṣita, a Buddhist professor at the famous Buddhist University of Nālandā. The work was known only through its Tibetan translation, until Dr. Brihler discovered a copy of the original work in Jesalmere palm-leaf collection. The Pattan Bhandar of Vāļi Pārsvanātha contains, also a commentary on the same work, entitled, Tattvasangrahapañjikā—a commentary on this by Kamalasīla which was known to us only from its Tibetan translation. The present MS. is written about the same time as the former. Kamalaśīla was a professor of Tantras at the University of Nālandā about 750 A. D. Tarkabhāsū3-by Mahāyati Mokşākaragupta (Buddhist) of the famous monastery of Rājajagaddala. The work is divided into 3 chapters treating of perception and two kinds of inference. This is most probably the same as Tarkabhāşă of Jūānaśrī of the Vikramasila University (about 983 A. D.) which was known to us through its Tibetan translation. Of the two palm-leaf MSS. one has the first two folia damaged while the other is wanting in the first four folia. 1 This work is now being taken up for publication in the GOS. 2 Published in the GOS with the commentary of Kamalas'ila as Nos. 30–31. 3 Taken up for publication in GOS.
