________________ ( 36 ) Therein we see not only rare and reliable MSS. of Jain literature, but also good MSS. of literary and philosophical works of the Brahmins and the Buddhists. Most of these MSS, in spite of their age, are in a good condition; while some of them written at the same time are worn out to such a degree that the leaves fall into pieces even at the touch. This is because the place where they were formerly stored was damp. The collection at present is in a good state of preservation. The number of paper MSS. is 744. IV. The collection in the Āgaliśeri consists of 3035 paper MSS., 22 palm-leaf MSS. and 1 cloth MS. The collection is especially rich in the MSS. of the sacred books of the Jains and the commentaries thereon, some of which were copied at the expense of a Jain millionaire Chhaddushah of Pattan in the beginning of the sixteenth century of the Vikrama Era. There are also many MSS. of Jain Rāsās in old Gujarāti. The collection is in a very good state of preservation. V. The Bhandar at Bhabha's Pādā is the collection of the Vimala branch of the Tapāgaccha. It is made of two collections one containing 522 and the other containing 1814 paper MSS. The lists of both the sections are incorrect, marginal notes on the last leaves being taken as the names of the MSS. Most of the MSS. are ordinary and not very old. I have however found a few rare MSS, in this collection. It is in a fairly good state of preservation. VI. The collection in the Sāgar's Upāśraya contains 1309 paper MSS., most of which are of ordinary interest and consist of only a few leaves. Besides these, there are 108 MSS. belonging to Bhāva Sāgar. All these are in a good state of preservation. VII. The collection belonging to Makā Modi consists of 230 paper and 2 palm-leaf MSS. The paper MSS. are mostly old. The 75 palm-leaf MSS. purchased by Dr. Kielhorn for the Bombay Government in the year 1880-81 at Pattan once belonged to this collection. The present collection is at present deposited in the Sāgar's Upāśraya. VIII. The collection belonging to Vastā Mānek was handed over to the late Vakil Lebrubhāi Dūhyābhāi ahd is, for the time
