परीक्षा नहीं है जो अपने मतलबकी बातको मान लेना और वाकीको छोड़ देना । यह कहाँका न्याय है ? मानी भी वह बात जा सकती है जो निश्चित हो।पहले जो लोग कुछ ही कहते थे, अब वे कुछ ही कहते हैं तो क्या पूर्वापर विरुद्ध वचन अथवा उस वचनका लिखने बोलनेवाला प्रमाणभूत हो .. सकता है, कभी नहीं । जिनने गुरुमुखसे शास्त्र ही नहीं देखे हैं, न उनका मनन ही किया है, न . उस भाषाकी योग्यता ही रखते हैं, जिनके वचनोंको पढ़कर अथवा सुनकर जनता हँसी उड़ाती है और उनकी गलतियों पर खेद जाहिर करती है ऐसे पुरुष भी प्रमाण रूप माने जायें और उनकी बातोंमें कुछ तथ्य समझा जाय तो गलीकूचोंमें फिरनेवाले मनमाना चिल्लानेवाले पुरुप भी क्यों न अच्छे माने जायें और क्यों न उनकी बातों में सार समझा जाय । इस लिए कहना पड़ेगा कि जिस परीक्षामें. अमूल्य रत्न फेंक कर निःसार काचका टुकड़ा ग्रहण करना पड़े यह परीक्षा किसी कामकी नहीं है। यदि जोजो विषय हिंदूधर्मसे मिलते हैं वे वे हिंदुओंके हैं तो जैनोंके घरका क्या है ? जैनोंके पास ऐसा कोई विषय नहीं है जो जैनधर्मसे वाह्य लोंगोके पास ने पाया जाय । जैनोंके हर एक विषय किसी न किसी रूपमें सभी मतोंमें पाये जायेंगे । जैसे वर्णव्यवस्था, जातिव्यवस्था, स्नान करना, खाना, पीना, सोना, बैठना, पूजा करना, प्रतिष्ठा करना, स्वर्ग-नरककी व्यवस्था, पुण्य-पापक संपादन, व्रतधारण, संन्यासधारण, तीर्थयात्रा, हिंसा न करना, झूठ न बोलना, चौरी न करना, कुशील सेवन न करना, ईश्वरकी स्तुति करना, जीवका अस्तित्व स्वीकार करना, कर्मोंके निमित्तसे' , संसारमें पड़ा रहना, कर्मोंके अभावमें मुक्तिका होना । तव कहना पड़ेगा कि इनमें जैनोंका कुछ भी : नहीं है । ये सब बाहरसे ही आये हैं। अब न मालूम जैनोंके पास अपने घरकी पूँजी क्या रह जाती है। इस लिए ऐसे मनुष्योंकी बातों पर श्रद्धान नहीं करना चाहिए । जो लोग शासनदेवोंके नामसे ही चिढ़ते हैं और निरी मनमानी ऊटपटांग शंकायें ही उठाया करते हैं वे भी ऋषिप्रणीत मांगकी अवहेलना करते हैं । श्रावकोंके कई दर्जे हैं । जिस दर्जेकी जो आवक है उस दर्जेके श्रावकको वैसा करना अनुचित नहीं है । यह तर्पण आदिका विधान जैनधर्मसे बाहरका नहीं है । किन्तु जैनधर्मका ही है । ऋषिप्रणीत प्रतिष्ठापाठोंमें ये सब विषय स्पष्ट रीतिसे विस्तारपूर्वक लिखे हुए हैं ॥ १० ॥
असंस्काराश्च ये कोचजलाशाः पितरः सुराः ।। . ..तेषां सन्तोपतृप्त्यर्थं दीयते सलिलं मया ॥ ११ ॥ ... ___ जिनका उपनयन आदि संस्कार नहीं हुआ है ऐसे कोई हमारे कुलके पुरुष मरकर पितर-सर (व्यन्तर जातिके देव ) हुए हो और जलकी आंशा रखते हो. तो उनके सन्तोषके लिए मैं जल समर्पण करता हूँ। भावार्थ-इस श्लोकमें असंस्कार 'पद पड़ा है। इससे मालूम होता है । कि जिन पुरुषोंका यज्ञोपवीत संस्कार नहीं होता है वे प्रायः मरकर व्यन्तर होते हैं । तथा ऐसा आर्षवाक्य भी है । यह बात सिद्धान्तसे निश्चित है कि व्यन्तरोंका निवास मध्यलोककी सम्पूर्ण पृथिवीपर है। कोई स्थान ऐसा नहीं है जहाँ कि व्यन्तर न रहते हों। उनका विचित्र स्वभाव है। यद्यपि वे स्वयं न कुछ खाते हैं और न पीते हैं, परन्तु फिर भी लोकमें वे ऐसी क्रियायें करते हैं, जिनसे मालम पड़ता है कि मानों एसा कार्य करते हों । इसी लिए अज्ञानी लोग यह कहा करते हैं कि

Like the caste system, the caste system, bathing, eating, drinking, sleeping, sitting, worshiping, establishing, the system of heaven and hell, the creation of merit and demerit, observing fasts, observing renunciation, pilgrimage, not harming, not lying, not stealing, not consuming intoxicants, praising God, accepting the existence of the soul, staying in the world due to the cause of karma, liberation due to the absence of karma.
