The characteristics of prakruta (natural) and vikruta (abnormal) sutaka (impurity due to menstruation or childbirth). That which is born naturally in women every month is called prakruta raja (natural menstruation). And that which occurs untimely due to the excess of dravya (substance), roga (disease) and udrekaata (excitement) is called vikruta raja (abnormal menstruation).
Bhavaartha (meaning) - Some women become menstrual even a month earlier, in which there are three causes: dravya, raaga (passion) and roga. The menstruation arising from these three causes is called vikruta raja, not raja (menstruation). These three cause-born vikruta raja have three types - rogaja (disease-born), raagaja (passion-born) and dravyaja (substance-born).
The menstruation that starts before the conception of offspring due to the increase of mada (intoxication) is rogaja raja. The repeated bleeding due to the imbalance of pitta (bile) etc. doshas is raagaja raja. And that which arises due to the imbalance of dhatus (bodily elements) is dravyaja raja. And the menstruation that occurs after the month is kaalaja (time-born) and prakruta.
If the menstruation of women occurs untimely, it does not defile them. The period above fifty years is also called akaal (untimely).
The impurity (ashaucha) of women lasts for three days from the sight of raja (menstruation). If the kaalaja (time-born) [menstruation] arises before half the night, it is the view of some.
If the raja (menstruation) arises in the night itself and dies, the previous day should be considered. One should make three parts of the night, the first two parts belong to the previous day, and the last part belongs to the next day.
If the woman becomes menstrual after the ritu-kaala (menstrual cycle), she becomes pure by just bathing before eighteen days. She does not need to observe the three-day impurity again.
