त्रैवर्णिकाचार। वाग्दानके बाद और विवाह समय होनेवाली वरणविधिसे पहले कन्याकी प्रदानविधि होती है, जो वरके पिताकी ओरसे की जाती है । कलश और आचार्यकी पूजा कर कन्याको वस्त्र-अलकार आदिसे विभूषित करे, उसे उत्तम कीमती रेशमी कपड़े, कानों में पहननेके दांगीने, कंठमें पहननेके दागीने, हाथ पैर शिर आदि स्थानोंमें पहनने योग्य दागीने देवे । अनन्तर ब्राह्मणों के द्वारा दिये हुए आशीर्वादको ग्रहण कर उन्हें (ब्राह्मणोंको ) फल वगैरह देवे । भावार्थ-सगाईके बाद लड़कीके लिए वरके पिताकी ओरसे गहना देनेको प्रदान-विधि कहते हैं ।। ४९-५० ॥
अथ वरणं-वरणविधि। मार्थयेद्गुणसम्पूर्णान् मधुपर्केण पूजितः । मदर्थं वृणीध्वं कन्यामिति दत्वा च दक्षिणाम् ।। ५१ ॥ गोत्रोद्भवस्य गोत्रस्य सम्बन्धस्यामुकस्य च । नप्ने पौत्राय पुत्राय ह्यमुकाय वराय चै ॥ ५२ ॥ कन्याया अपि मोत्रस्य यथापूर्ववदुच्चरेत् । नप्त्रीमथ च पौत्री च पुत्री कन्यां यथाविधि।। ५३ ॥ कन्यासमीपमागत्य ब्राह्मणैः सह वै पिता। इत्युक्त्वा भो द्विजा यूयं वृणीध्वं कन्यकामिमाम् ॥ ५४ ॥ प्रत्यूचुः सज्जनाः सव वयं चैनां वृणीमहे ।
सुप्रयुक्तति सूक्तं वै जपेयुः सज्जनास्ततः ।। ५५ ॥ .मधुपर्कद्वारा पूजा किया गया वर, व्रती सदाचारी गुणवान् ब्राह्मणोंकी प्रदक्षिणा देकर, "मदर्थ कन्यां वृणीध्वं" अर्थात् " मेरे लिए आप सब लोग मिलकर कन्या स्वीकार करो" ऐसी मार्थना करे । बाद कन्याका पिता कन्याके समीप आकर ब्राह्मणोंके साथ इस प्रकार गोत्रोचारण करे कि म, अमुक गोत्रमें उत्पन्न हुए अमुकका प्रपोता, अमुकका पोता, अमुकका पुत्र, . अमुक नामवाले वरके लिए अगुककी प्रपोती, अमुककी पोती, अमुककी लड़की, अमुक नामवाली कन्याको देता हूं। हे ब्राह्मणो! आप लोग स्वीकार करो । इसके बदलेमें वे सब ब्राह्मण लोग कहें कि हम सब इस कन्याको स्वीकार करते हैं। बाद सारे सजन “सुप्रयुक्ता" इत्यादि सुभाषितोंको पढ़ें ॥ ५१-५५!!
