और दूसरे विद्वानोंने उसका यथारुचि-चाहे जिस नामसे-अपने ग्रंथोंमें उल्लेख किया है; एक नामके कई कई पर्यायनाम भी होते हैं और उन पर्यायनामों अथवा आंशिक पर्यायनामोंसे भी विद्वानों तथा आचार्योंका उल्लेख मिलता है; कितने ही विभिन्न भाषाओंके अनुवादोंमें, कभी कभी मूलग्रंथ और ग्रंथकारके नामोंका भी अनुवाद कर दिया जाता है अथवा वे नाम अनुवादित रूपसे ही उन भाषाओंके ग्रंथोंमें उल्लेखित हैं; एक व्यक्तिके जो दूसरे नाम, उपनाम, पर्यायनाम अथवा अनुवादित नाम हों वे ही दूसरे व्यक्तियोंके मूल नाम भी हो सकते हैं और अक्सर होते रहे हैं; समसामयिक व्यक्तियोंके नामोंका भी प्रायः ऐसा ही हाल है; कोई कोई विद्वान् कई कई आचायोंके भी शिष्य हुए हैं और उन्होंने अपनेको चाहे जहाँ चाहे जिस आचार्यका शिष्य सूचित किया है; एक संघ अथवा गच्छके किसी अच्छे आचार्यको दूसरे संघ अथवा गच्छने भी अपनाया है और उसे अपने ही संघ तथा गच्छका आचार्य सूचित किया है। इसी तरहपर कोई कोई आचार्य अनेक मठोंके अधिपति अथवा अनेक स्थानोंकी गद्दियोंके स्वामी भी हुए हैं और इससे उनके कई कई पट्टशिष्य हो गये हैं, जिनमेंसे प्रत्येकने उन्हें अपना ही पट्टगुरु सूचित किया है । इस प्रकारकी हालतोंमें किसीके असली नाम और असली कामका पता चलाना कितनी टेढ़ी खीर है, और एक ऐतिहासिक विद्वानके लिये यथार्थ वस्तुस्थितिका निर्णय करने अथवा किसी खास घटना या उल्लेखको किसी खास व्यक्तिके साथ संयोजित करनेमें कितनी अधिक उलझनों
