पूर्वभट्टारकाः केचित् किल पूजां कृत्वा कारयित्वा च व्याख्यानं कृतवन्तः कोटरे धृत्वा च गतवन्तश्च । गोविन्देन च बाल्यात्प्रभति तं दृष्टा नित्यमेव पूजा कृता वृक्षकोटरस्यापि । एषं स गोविन्दो निदानेन मृत्वा तत्रैव ग्रामकूटस्य पुत्रोऽभूत् । तमेव पद्मनन्दिमुनिमालोक्य जातिस्मरो जातः । तपो गृहीत्वा कोण्डेशनामा महामुनिः श्रुतधरोऽभूत् । इति श्रुतदानस्य फलम् ।
वसतिदाने सूकरो दृष्टान्तः। अस्य कथामालवदेशे घटग्रामे कुम्भकारो देविलनामा नापितश्च धेमिलनामा । ताभ्यां पथिकजनानां वसतिनिमित्तं देवकुलं कारितम् । एकदा देविलेन मुनये तत्र प्रथमं वसतिर्दत्ता धमिलेन च पश्चात् परिव्राजकस्तत्रानीय धृतः । ताभ्यां च धमिलपरिव्राजकाभ्यां निःसारित स मुनिवृक्षमूले रात्रौ दंशमशकशीतादिकं सहमानः स्थितः प्रभाते देविलधमिल्लौ तत्कारणेन परस्परं युद्धं कृत्वा मृत्वा विन्ध्ये क्रमेण सूकरव्याघ्रौ प्रौढौ जातौ । यत्र च गुहायां स सूकरस्तिष्ठति तत्रैव च गुहायामेकदा समाधिगुप्तत्रिगुप्तमुनी आगत्य स्थितौ तौ च दृष्ट्वा जातिस्मरो भूत्वा देविलचरसूकरो धर्ममाकर्ण्य व्रतं गृहीतवान् । तत्प्रस्तावे मनुष्यगन्धमाघ्राय मुनिभक्षणार्थ स व्याघ्रोऽपि तत्रायातः । सूकरश्च तयो रक्षानिमित्तं गुहाद्वारे स्थितः । तत्रापि तौ परस्परं युध्वा मृतौ । सूकरो मुनिरक्षणाभिप्रायेण शुभाभिसन्धित्वात् मृत्वा सौधर्मे महद्धिको देवो जातः । व्याघ्रस्तु मुनिभक्षणाभिप्रायेणातिरौद्राभिप्रायत्वान्मृत्वा नरकं गतः । वसतिदानस्य फलम् ॥ २८ ॥ ___ यथा वैयावृत्यं विदधता चतुर्विधं दानं दातव्यं तथा पूजाविधानमपि कर्तव्यमित्याहः

The boar, who was Devila in his past life, heard the Dharma and took up vows. At that time, smelling the scent of a human, the tiger came there to eat the Muni. The boar stood at the entrance of the cave to protect them. They fought with each other and died. The boar, having died with the intention of protecting the Muni and with good intentions, was reborn as a great god in the Saudharma heaven. The tiger, having died with the intention of eating the Muni and with fierce intentions, went to hell. This is the fruit of giving shelter. || 28 ||
