Chāyā -
अनुमागंगामिन्या दत्तोऽनुकम्पा तव रे पादाघातो नूनम् ।
नासत्यं यत् यावच्च रसेन त्वं किसलितोऽशोक इव ॥ Reading improved
अम्माइआइ दिखावह तुह रे अवस्थरारिहइ ।
णावलियं जं जावयरमेण तं किसलिओ असोउ व्व ॥ Chāya
अनुमार्गगामिन्या दत्तोऽनुकम्पा तव रे पादाघातो नूनम् ।
नासत्यं यत यावकरसेन त्वं किसलितोऽशोक इव ॥ Eng. Trans.-Certainly you have been given a kick, Oh pitiable, by the lady following you. It is not untruth that with the juice of ‘alakta' i.e. red lac (besmearing her feet) you are like an Asoka tree with fresh foliage.
___Remarks-The separation of जाव य रसेण in Pischel's reading indeed gives no sense or a sense purchased at the cost of treating two words a and J as redundant. If the separated elements are combined so as to form a compound word जावयरसेण (यावकरसेन) meaning 'lac juice' then the stanza gives a very appropriate sense and consistent with the poetical convention of an Asoka blossomming at the kick of a fair lady.
