this hiatus, the Vipassana Research Institute is publishing this complete edition of the Tipitaka and its allied literature in Devanāgari.
The main purpose of this publication is to inspire practitioners and scholars to make a smooth journey on the path of pure Dhamma, by means of Vipassana meditation, aided by an understanding of the theoretical knowledge of the words of the Buddha. We hope the teachings of the Buddha will become known and popular in every household.
The division of the Tipitaka according to the Chattha-Sangāyana (Sixth Council) is as follows:
(a) Vinaya-Pitaka
1. Pārājika, 2. Pacittiya, 3. Mahāvagga, 4. Cūļavagga,
5. Parivāra. (b) Sutta-Pitaka
1. Dĩgha-Nikāya, 2. Majjhima-Nikaya, 3. Samyutta-Nikaya, 4. Anguttara-Nikāya, 5. Khuddaka-Nikāya.
The books under the Khuddaka-Nikāya are: Khuddakapāțha, Dhammapada, Udāna, Itivuttaka, Suttanipāta, Vimānavatthu, Petavatthu, Theragāthā, Therigāthā, Apadāna, Buddhavamsa, Cariyāpitaka, Jātaka, Mahāniddesa, Culaniddesa, Patisambhidāmagga, Nettippakarana, Petakopadesa and Milindapañha.
(c) Abhidhamma-Pitaka
1. Dhammasangani, 2. Vibhanga, 3. Dhātukathā, 4. Puggalapaññatti, 5. Kathāvatthu, 6. Yamaka, 7. Patthāna.
