अभव्य जीव शास्त्रों को भलीभाँति पढ़कर भी प्रकृति स्वभाव को नहीं छोड़ता । जैसे सर्प गुड़मिश्रित दूध को पीते हुए विषरहित नहीं होते ।
The one incapable of attaining liberation, even though wellversed in scriptures, does not give up his attachment for various species of karmas, like a snake does not give up its poisonous nature even after drinking sweetened (jaggery-mixed) milk.
ज्ञानी कर्म-फल को नहीं भोगता
णिव्वेयसमावण्णो णाणी कम्मप्फलं वियाणादि । महुरं कडुयं बहुविहमवेदगो तेण सो होदि ॥
वैराग्य को प्राप्त ज्ञानी मधुर, कटुक अनेक प्रकार के कर्मइसलिए वह कर्म-फल का भोक्ता नहीं हैं।

- फल को जानता है,
The knowledgeable, fixed in non-attachment, knows the sweetbitter nature of the fruition of karmas; he, therefore, remains a non-enjoyer.

ज्ञानी पुण्य, पाप को जानता है
विकुव्वणि वि वेददि णाणी कम्माइ बहुप्पयाराई । जाणदि पुण कम्मफलं बंधं पुण्णं च पावं च ॥
