तपश्चराणां धुरि कीर्त्यते यो महानहिंसाचरणावतारः । जगञ्जनक्षेमपथोपदेशः स्मरामि तं किञ्चन वर्धमानम् ॥ १ ॥
ટી-વિસ્મૃતિઃ
જે તપસ્વીઆમાં અગ્રેસર તરીકે ગવાય છે, જે અહિંસાને યા અહિંસા મય ચારિત્રનો મહાત્ અવતાર છે અને જેણે જગતને કલ્યાણકારક થાય એવે માત્ર ઉપદેશ્યેા છે એ વર્ધમાનને હું કઈક યાદ કરું છું. ૧
(1) Let me meditate awhile on the Lord Vardhamān", the best amongst ascetics, the great incarnation to practise non-injury and the teacher of the path serving to do mankind's welfare.
मूलाभिघातः खलु वर्धमानो 'देवार्य' नाम्नाऽभिदधे प्रजाभिः । वीरः पुनवरतया प्रसिद्धः स सन्मतिर्ज्ञातसुतोऽप्यभाषि ॥ २ ॥
મૂલ નામે ‘વ માન’ છે. પ્રજાએ એમને ‘દેવાય ' નામથી સ’બેધ્યા છે. વીરતાના ચેાગે ‘વીર’ નામથી પ્રસિદ્ધ થયા છે. એએ ‘ સન્મતિ ’ અને ‘ જ્ઞાતપુત્ર ’ પણ કહેવાય છે, ર્
(2) Vardhamäna was His original name, He was known as Devarya by the people; His prowess won Him the name of Vira; and He was also called Sanmati and Jnataputra.
प्राचीनकालाऽऽश्रमवर्त्मना स्वां गतिं तनोति त्रिशलाङ्गजन्मा | चतुर्वसौ विश्रममाश्रमेषु कुर्वन् क्रमादन्तत एति पूर्णम् | ૨ ||
• ત્રિશલાનન્દન ? ( વષઁમાન ) પ્રાચીન આશ્રમ-પદ્ધતિના માર્ગ પેાતાની ગતિ લંબાવે છે, ચાર આશ્રમમાં ક્રમશઃ વિશ્રામ લેતે એ મહાપુરુષ આખરે પૂર્ણ વિશ્રામી બને છે. ૩
