________________ Temple Activities - 3 Pujan Pujan is singing with devotion the qualities of Jina, Guru, and Shastra in pureness of thoughts, speech and body. O O O The power Visarjan plate Puja plate There are three components used for performing Pujan. Ashika which is a stand with small plate on top, Puja plate containing eight dravyas ( substances) and a visarjan plate with a Swastik in which the dravyas are offered. Eight dravyas (substances) are used for performing pujan, each of which has a significant meaning. Naivedya : Coconut cubes are offered which signify Jal: Pure water is offered during Pujan which is symbolic overcoming of earthly desires. for the end of birth, old age and death cycles. Deepak :"Saffron colored coconut cubes signify Chandan : Saffron colored water is offered for overcoimng of worldly attachments. the end of worldly sufferings. Dhoop: Chandan powder is offered for Akshat: Rice grains symbolize attaining overcoimng of eight karmas. an indestroyable state. Fal: Almond fruit signify tasting the fruit Pushp: Saffron colored rice grains of life which is Moksha. signify the overcoming of passions. Pujan is effective in lessening of worldly desires, pride and ignorance.
