Elaboration According to the commentator (Churni) taddhit is defined as the source of meaning or the letter, sign or word representing a specific meaning called taddhit. Grammatically it is an affix imparting specific meaning to a word. The kridant (primary) affixes give meaning to verbal roots and the taddhit (nominal) affixes give meaning to words. The eight kinds of nominal affixes or terminations are discussed in the following aphorism. (क) कर्मनाम
३०३. से किं तं कम्मणामे ?
कम्मणामे-दोस्सिए सोत्तिए कप्पासिए सुत्तवेतालिए भंडवेतालिए कोलालिए। से तं कम्मनामे। ___३०३. (प्र.) कर्मनाम क्या है ?
(उ.) कर्म (व्यापार के कारण जिसका नाम प्रसिद्ध होता है वह) नाम के उदाहरण इस प्रकार हैं-दौष्यिक (दूष्य-वस्त्र बेचने वाला), सौत्रिक (सूत या धागे का व्यापारी), कासिक (कपास का व्यापार करने वाला), सूत्रवैचारिक (सूत बेचने वाला), भांडवैचारिक (बंजारा), कौलालिक-(मिट्टी के बर्तनों का व्यापार करने वाला)। ये सब कर्मनाम हैं। (A) KARMA NAAM

The (examples of) Karma naam (name associated with trade or profession) are as follows-Daushyik (a person engaged in trading of dushya or cloth; a cloth merchant), Sautrik (a person engaged in trading of sutra or thread; a thread dealer), Karpasık (a person engaged in trading of kapas or cotton; cotton merchant), Sutravaicharik (a person engaged in trading of sutra or thread; a thread dealer), Bhandavaicharık (a person engaged in trading of bhanda or groceries; a grocer) and Kaulalik (a person engaged in trading of kaulal or earthen pots; an earthen ware dealer).
