अप्रशस्त भावोपक्रम व्यवहार, संकेत, चेहरे के भाव आदि से दूसरे के भावों/विचारों को समझना भावोपक्रम है। जिस भावोपक्रम में सांसारिक वृत्तियाँ प्रधान हों वह अप्रशस्त भावोपक्रम है। उदाहरण के रूप में
(१) एक ब्राह्मण कन्या ने माता की सलाह से विवाह की प्रथम रात्रि में पति के सिर पर लात मारी। स्नेह, अनुराग वश पति उसके पाँव सहलाने लगता है कि कहीं तुम्हारे कोमल पाँवों को चोट तो नहीं लगी? इससे पत्नी ने पति की मनोवृत्ति समझ ली-“यह सदा ही पत्नी का आज्ञाधीन रहेगा।"
(२) दूसरी कन्या ने भी पति के सिर पर लात मारी, तब पति ने कुछ रुष्ट होकर कहा-‘ऐसा व्यवहार उचित नहीं है।' इससे समझा कि पति के साथ व्यवहार में थोड़ी-सी सावधानी बरतनी चाहिए।
(३) तीसरी कन्या ने भी पति के सिर पर लात मारी, तब पति ने क्रोध करके उसे डाँटते हुए लाठी से पीटा, चोटी पकड़कर धक्के मारकर घर से निकाल दिया। इससे यह निष्कर्ष निकला कि पति का स्वभाव बहुत कठोर है। उसको सदा प्रसन्न रखने का प्रयास करना चाहिए।

APRASHAST-BHAAVA-UPAKRAM To understand the feelings and thoughts of a person through his behaviour, gestures, and expressions on the face is bhaava-upakram. When worldly attitudes are given importance it is called Aprashastbhaava-upakram. Examples
(1) At the advise of her mother a Brahmin girl kicks at the head of
husband on the honeymoon night. Out of love and affection the husband caresses her foot saying that her delicate foot might have been hurt. This reveals his disposition that he will always be a hen-pecked husband. ___ (2) The second daughter also kicked her husband. He got a little angry and said, “This does not behove you.” This revealed that she will have to be a little careful in dealings with her husband.
(3) Third daughter also kicked her husband. The husband lost his temper, beat her with a stick, caught her with her hair and threw her out of the house. This revealed that the husband was unsparing and he should always be kept in good humour.
