(4) Skhalit ninda (criticizing faults)-Skhalit means fallen and here it means cause of falling or faults and failures. Ninda means criticism or censure. In the fourth chapter, Pratikraman, faults and failings are criticized and censured. Faults and failures mean transgressions (atikraman) of codes and disciplines propounded by Tirthankars. The process of undoing is through critical review (pratikraman). On the spiritual path pratikraman (critical review) is done with respect to four actions,
(i) To indulge in censured or proscribed activities. (ii) To avoid prescribed or pious activities. (iii) To disbelieve and show disrespect for means of liberation. (iv) To propagate dissenting or heretic views.
(5) Vrana chikitsa (healing wounds)—The central theme of the fifth chapter, Kayotsarg, is vran (wound or sore) chikitsa (to heal). When the body is wounded, efforts are made to treat it with the help of surgery or medicine or other such means. In the same way kayotsarg (practice of dissociating mind from the body) is done to purge and absolve oneself from the faults and failings in observing ascetic discipline. This has been stated by some acharyas metaphorically-—'Consider ascetic conduct to be a human body. Sinful activities and transgressions are like wounds on this body. To heal this body with the help of ten types of atonements, meditation and dissociation of mind from body (kayotsarg), and twelve types of sublime contemplation is called vrana chikitsa (healing wounds).
(6) Guna dharana (acquiring virtues)—The theme of the sixth chapter, Pratyakhyan, is to acquire virtues. The resolve to acquire the basic virtues like ahimsa and other great-vows along with the auxiliary virtues like the ten pratyakhyans (practice of specific preparatory codes that help acquire virtues) and practice ascetic discipline without any transgressions is called guna dharana (acquiring virtues).
