मलय देश में बने कीटज सूत्र को मलय कहते हैं तथा चीन देश से बाहर कीटों की लार से बना सूत्र अंशुक और चीन देश में बना सूत्र चीनांशुक कहलाता है।
कृमिरागसूत्र का सामान्य अर्थ है कूमचिया रंग का सूत्र। वृत्तिकार के अनुसार इस विषय में ऐसा सुना जाता है कि कुछ क्षेत्र-विशेषों में मनुष्य का रक्त बर्तन में भरकर उसमें रासायनिक पदार्थ मिलाकर उसके मुख को छिद्रों वाले ढक्कन से ढंक देते हैं। उसमें बहुत से लाल रंग के कृमि-कीड़े उत्पन्न हो जाते हैं। वे कृमि छिद्रों से निकलकर बाहर आसपास के प्रदेश में उड़ते हुए अपनी लार छोड़ते हैं। इस लार को इक्ट्ठा करके जो सूत बनाया जाता है, वह कृमिराग सूत्र कहलाता है। लाल रंग के कृमियों से उत्पन्न होने के कारण इस सूत का रंग भी लाल होता है। यह भी रेशम होता है। __ रोमों-बालों से बने सूत को 'वालज' कहते हैं, यह ऊन होता है। भेड़ के रोमों-बालों से जो सूत बनता है वह और्णिक, ऊँट के रोमों से बना सूत औष्ट्रिक, मृग के रोमों से बना सूत मृगलोमिक तथा चूहे के रोमों से बना सूत कौतव कहलाता है। इन और्णिक आदि सूत्रों को बनाते समय इधर-उधर बिखरे बालों का नाम किट्टिस है। इनसे निर्मित अथवा और्णिक आदि सूत को दुहरा-तिहरा करके बनाया गया सूत अथवा घोड़ों आदि के बालों से बना सूत किट्टिस कहलाता है। (सचित्र आचारांग, भाग २, पृ. ३११ में पाँच प्रकार के वस्त्रों का वर्णन)
Elaboration Details of andaj and other terms-Andaj has been described as hamsagarbh. The popular meaning of hamsa is swan but here it means moth. These are four sensed beings and are also called kosha. Garbh generally means womb but here it means cocoon. The egg of a moth gives birth to a worm, which produces saliva that turns into fiber when it comes in contact with air. The worm weaves a cocoon around itself with this fiber. Therefore yarn made of this fiber is called andaj or of egg origin and is included in silk. (Anuyogadvar Churni by Jambuvijaya ji, p. 86)
Bonda means the fruit of cotton plant. The fiber produced by this fruit is called bondaj or of fruit origin. Yarn made of this and other such fibers are included in cotton.
