"हे चित्त ! तुम श्रावस्ती नगरी जाओ और वहाँ के जितशत्रु राजा को यह ( महापुरुषों के अनुरूप 'और राजा के योग्य मूल्यवान् ) भेंट उसे दो तथा जितशत्रु राजा के साथ रहकर स्वयं वहाॅ की शासन व्यवस्था, राजा की दैनिकचर्या, राजनीति और राज - व्यवहार को गहराई से देखो, सुनो और अनुभव करो। "
तब चित्त सारथी प्रदेशी राजा की इस आज्ञा को सुनकर हर्षित हुआ यावत् दोनों हाथ जोडे - "राजन् ! ऐसा ही होगा।" यों कहकर विनयपूर्वक आज्ञा को स्वीकार किया । आज्ञा स्वीकार करके उस उपहार को साथ लिया और प्रदेशी राजा के पास से निकलकर बाहर आया । सेयविया नगरी में जहाँ उसका अपना घर था, वहाँ आया । आकर उस उपहार को एक तरफ रख दिया और कौटुम्बिक पुरुषों (आज्ञाकारी सेवकों) को बुलाकर इस प्रकार
कहा
- "देवानुप्रियो ! शीघ्र ही छत्र लगा हुआ एक शीघ्रगामी चार घटों वाला अश्व - रथ तैयार करो और मुझे वापस सूचना दो ।"
उन कौटुम्बिक पुरुषों ने चित्त सारथी की आज्ञा अनुसार शीघ्र ही छत्र सहित सजाये गये अश्व-रथ को जोतकर उपस्थित कर दिया और मंत्री को रथ तैयार हो जाने की सूचना दी।
DEPARTURE OF CHITTA SAARTHI TOWARDS SHRAVASTI
211. (a) Once on a special occasion, king Pradeshi called his trusted lieutenant Chitta Saarthi. He (king) prepared a very beautiful costly gift worthy of presentation to the kings and said to Chitta Saarthi---
"O Chitta! You go to Shravasti town and offer him this gift worthy of presentation to the kings. You stay with king Jitashatru for some time and closely study the administration, the daily routine of the king the political affairs and kings relation with the subjects. You make a deep study, enquire from the people and intimately study it."
Chitta Saarthi felt happy at these orders of king Pradeshi; he folded his hands in respect for the king and said "Respected Sir ! I shall fully comply your orders." He then accepted the orders humbly, picked up the requisite gift and came out from the side of king Pradeshi. He came to his residence in Seyaviya town. Thereafter he kept the gift aside, called his obedient servants and said
