help of his knowledge, Sthulibhadra came to know about their planned visit. In order to display his powers and to give his sisters a 4
surprise Sthulıbhadra transformed himself into a lion and waited for 4 15 them. When his sisters came and stood rooted at the spot with fear he 4 regained his natural form. The sisters were astonished and filled
with pride at this display of divine power by their brother.
- Acharya Bhadrabahu came to know of all these happenings. The 45 4 display of miracles without some dire need is considered laxness in
the ascetic conduct. The guru got annoyed with Sthulibhadra and stopped any further teaching of the Agams. After Sthulibhadra
sincerely sought his forgiveness and beseeched him to continue the LF lessons Sthulibhadra was given just the text of the remaining four % Purvas and not the meaning. The Chaturdash Purvadhar lineage si 51 ended here. Sthulibhadra was the first Dash Purvadhar (knower of Si
the ten Purvas). He was completely devoted to the tasks of organizir the religious order and compiling the canonical knowledge. Sthulibhadra died in the year 215 A.N.M. (254 B.V., 311 B.C.).
२७ : एलावच्चसगोत्तं, वंदामि महागिरि सहत्थिं च।
__ तत्तो कोसिअ-गोत्तं, बहुलस्स सरिव्वयं वंदे। ____ अर्थ-एलापत्य गोत्रीय महागिरि और सुहस्ती को वन्दन करता हूँ और फिर कौशिक
गोत्रीय बहुल और उनके समान आयु वाले बलिस्सह को वन्दना करता हूँ। 4. I pay homage to Mahagiri of the Elapatya gotra and Suhasti,
and then to Ballissaha of the Kaushik gotra who was equal in age to Bahul.
विवेचन-आचार्य स्थूलभद्र से आरम्भ हुई दश पूर्वधर परम्परा लगभग २५0 वर्षों तक चली . और उसमें एक से एक प्रकाण्ड विद्वान् आचार्य हुए। अपने प्रभावक और तेजस्वी व्यक्तित्व के कारण ये युग-प्रधान के रूप में प्रसिद्ध हुए।
आर्य महागिरि-एलापत्य गोत्रीय आर्य महागिरि का जन्म वी. नि. १४५ (३२४ वि. पू., ३८१ 9 ई. पू.) में होने का अनुमान है। इनके माता-पिता के सम्बन्ध में कोई जानकारी उपलब्ध नहीं है,
केवल यही उल्लेख मिलता है कि इनकी शैशव अवस्था आर्या यक्षा के निकट बीती थी। इन्होंने ॐ आचार्य स्थूलभद्र के निकट ३० वर्ष की आयु में वी. नि. १७५ (२८४ वि. पू., ३४१ ई. पू.) में ॐ दीक्षा ग्रहण की। लगभग चालीस वर्ष तक अपने गुरु के निकट इन्होंने सम्पूर्ण श्रुतज्ञान का अभ्यास
किया और दश पूर्वधर बने। आर्य स्थूलभद्र के देहावसान के पश्चात् वी. नि. २१५ में ये पट्टधर बने । मान्यता यह है कि आर्य स्थूलभद्र ने इन्हें तथा आर्य सुहस्ति दोनों को ही आचार्य पद दे दिया है युग-प्रधान स्थविर वन्दना
