उदक- उपनय : स्वादिष्ट भोजन की प्रशंसा

चम्पानगरी का जितशत्रु राजा एक बार मंत्री, सार्थवाहों आदि के साथ भोजन कर रहा था। भोजन के पश्चात् राजा ने कहा - " अहा ! आज का भोजन कितना स्वादिष्ट और आनन्ददायक था ?” सभी लोगों ने राजा के कथन की पुष्टि की, परन्तु सुबुद्धि मंत्री मौन रहा। राजा ने पूछा - " क्यों मंत्रिवर ! यह भोजन स्वादिष्ट है न ?”
मंत्री ने गंभीरतापूर्वक उत्तर दिया- "महाराज ! पुद्गलों का स्वभाव ही ऐसा है, शुभ पुद्गल अशुभ रूप में व अशुभ पुद्गल शुभ रूप वर्ण-गंध आदि में परिवर्तित होते रहते हैं। इसमें राग-द्वेष का कोई कारण नहीं ।"

Jitshatru, the king of Champa, one day, after a sumptuous meal with his princes, ministers, and merchants, liberally praised the food. Except for Subuddhi, all the guests present there agreed with the king. When the king asked for Subuddhi's opinion he said that there was nothing unusual about it. Things that appear good turn bad and vice versa. Transformation is the basic nature of all things. Therefore it was hardly worth feeling happy or distressed about.
