गये। इसके बाद जब पत्ते सूखे तो वे सलाई के आकार के हो नीचे लटकने लगे और कुछ पत्ते झड़ने भी लगे। फलियाँ पककर पीली पड़ गईं।
जब मजदूरों ने देखा कि फसल पककर तैयार हो गई है तो उन्होंने तेज और नई धार किये हँसियों से फलियों को काट लिया। काटी हुई सूखी फलियों को हाथ से मसलकर धान को फली से अलग किया। सूप से फटक-फटककर धान के साबूत दाने अलग किये गये। इनका भार एक प्रस्थक था (मगध देश का तत्कालीन माप)।
9. At the proper time the rice plants grew high and displayed a rich green hue. That little bunch of plants was beautiful and satisfying. With time these plants furthered and looked full. Slowly appeared the buds and flowers and a fragrance spread all around. The flowers got pollinated and the seed pods appeared. As the seeds matured the leaves started turning yellow. Some of the leaves looked like straw, some wilted, and others dropped. Finally the pods became ripe and yellow.
When the workers saw that the crop is ready they harvested it with sharp and freshly honed scythes. They threshed these stalks with hands and then winnowed the grains. The weight of these grains was one Prasthak (a measure of weight in ancient Magadh, a state in eastern India). अक्षत संवर्धन
सूत्र १0. तए णं ते कोडुंबिया ते साली नवएसु घडएसु पक्खिवंति, पक्खिवित्ता उवलिंपति, उवलिंपित्ता लंछियमुद्दिए करेंति, करित्ता कोट्ठागारस्स एगदेसंसि ठावेंति, ठावित्ता सारक्खेमाणा संगोवेमाणा विहरति।।
तए णं ते कोडुबिया दोच्चम्मि वासारत्तंसि पढमपाउसंसि महावुट्टिकायंसि निवइयंसि खुड्डागं केयारं सुपरिकम्मियं करेंति, करित्ता ते साली ववंति, दोच्चं पि तच्चं पि उक्खयनिक्खए जाव लुणेति जाव चलणतलमलिए करेंति, करित्ता पुणंति, तत्थ णं सालीणं बहवे कुडए जाए। जाव एगदेसंसि ठावेंति, ठावित्ता सारखेमाणा संगोवेमाणा विहरंति।
सूत्र १०. इन नये चावलों को एक घड़े में भर दिया गया और उसके मुँह को बंदकर मिट्टी से लीप दिया गया। इस घड़े पर मोहर लगाकर भंडार में एक ओर सुरक्षित रख दिया गया।
