वैसी स्थिति में जो भी और जैसा भी अल्प स्वल्प मात्रा में प्रासुक भोजन उन्हें मिलता, उसे वे सर्वथा अदीन, अविमन, (शान्तचित्त) अकलुष, (मलिनता रहित), अविषाद-आकुलता-व्याकुलता रहित, समाधि भाव के साथ ग्रहण करते थे, अर्थात् दैन्य भाव नहीं लाते हुए, मन को मैला नहीं करते हुए, अशुभ भावों का वर्जन करते हुए, विषाद-खेद नहीं करते हुए, तनतनाट से रहित अर्जुन अणगार ने निर्मल भावों से भिक्षाचरी तप की आराधना की। इस प्रकार वे भिक्षार्थ भ्रमण करते । भ्रमण करके वे (वापस) राजगृह से निकलते और गुणशीलक उद्यान में, जहां श्रमण भगवान महावीर विराजमान थे, वहां आते और वहाँ आकर गौतम स्वामी की तरह भिक्षा में जो प्राप्त हुआ उस आहार-पानी प्रभू महावीर को दिखाते और दिखाकर उनकी आज्ञा पाकर मूर्छा रहित, जिस प्रकार बिल में सर्प सीधा ही प्रवेश करता है, उस प्रकार राग-द्वेष एवं आसक्ति रहित होकर उस आहार-पानी
का सेवन करते थे । Maxim 20:
Even after getting abuse, chide, rebuke, revile, contempt, struck etc., from many men, women, children, youths, aged persons, youngsters, Arjuna mendicant did not become wrathful towards them even in thought and bore all the calamities given by them with even mind. Although he was in a position to take revenge he adopted forgiveness, bore those troubles gladly and understanding the benefit of shedding off karmas felt happiness, he bore all those hardships engrossed with right knowledge, pardoned them and considering all those troubles as good for soul-uplift, wandered in high-lowmiddle class families of Rājagrha city seeking meals. In these circumstances, smiling he got food, but did not get water and sometimes he got water but did not get food.
