जानना चाहिए) अर्थात् दूसरे प्रहर में ध्यान करके तीसरे प्रहर में राजगृह नगर में भिक्षार्थ भ्रमण करने लगे ।
उस समय उस अर्जुन मुनि को राजगृह नगर में उच्च-नीच - मध्यम कुलों में भिक्षार्थ घूमते हुए देखकर नगर के अनेक नागरिक स्त्री-पुरुष, बाल-वृद्ध इस प्रकार कहते थे
" इसने मेरे पिता को मारा है, इसने मेरी माता को मारा है, भाई को मारा है, बहन को मारा है, भार्या को मारा है, पुत्र को मारा है, कन्या को मारा है, पुत्रवधु को मारा है एवं इसने मेरे अमुक स्वजन सम्बन्धी परिजन को मारा है ।"
ऐसा कहकर कोई उन्हें गाली देता, कोई हीलना करता, अनादर करता, निन्दा करता, कोई जाति आदि का दोष बताकर झुंझला उठता, गर्हा करता, कोई भय बताकर तर्जना करता, और कोई थप्पड़, ईंट, पत्थर, लाठी आदि से भी मारता था ।
Troubles Conquered Salvation Attained
Maxim 19 :
Thereafter Arjuna monk on the fast breaking day in the first prahara studied the scriptures, in the second did meditation and in the third prahara sallied forth for seeking meals from Rājagṛha city. (His conduct should be considered similar to that of Gautama Swami)
At that time seeing Arjuna mendicant wandering for seeking meals in the high-low and middle class families, many citizens-men-women, boys-oldmen used to sayHe has murdered my father, my mother, my brother, my sister, my wife, my son, my daughter, my daughter-in-law and other kith and kin etc.
Saying thus some abused him, some caviled at him, chided, censured, rebuked, reviled, look down upon him in contempt, some struck him by hand, brick, stone and stick etc. तृतीय अध्ययन
