the householder's deception and finding about the faults involved, a prudent ascetic should not stay in such upashraya. __(The disciple asks-) “Is the statement of an ascetic who, being asked by a householder frankly explains the ascetic norms about upashraya, proper.”
(The preceptor says-) “Yes, it is proper."
विवेचन-इस सूत्र की पूर्व पृष्ठभूमि को स्पष्ट करते हुए चूर्णि, वृत्ति में इस प्रकार का उल्लेख है-कोई मुनि किसी गाँव में आये और भिक्षा के लिए गये, तब गृहस्थ कहता है, यहाँ आहार-पानी की सुलभता है। आप यहाँ क्यों नहीं ठहरते? साधु कहता है इस वसति में आहार तो सुलभ है, परन्तु ठहरने के लिए स्थान सुलभ नहीं है। आगे मुनि का उत्तर मूल पाठ में प्रस्तुत है।
शुद्ध-निर्दोष भवन आदि के लिए सर्वप्रथम तीन बातें अपेक्षित हैं-(१) प्रासुक-आधाकर्मादि दोष से रहित, (२) उंछ-छादनादि उत्तरगुण-दोष से रहित, और (३) एषणीय-मूलोत्तरगुण विशुद्ध। इन तीनों के अतिरिक्त वह स्थान साधु की कायोत्सर्ग, स्वाध्याय आदि आवश्यक क्रियाओं के लिए उपयुक्त भी होना चाहिए। इसीलिए निर्दोष एवं उपयुक्त स्थान का मिलना दुर्लभ
बताया है। ____ 'पिण्डवाएसणाओ' का तात्पर्य वृत्तिकार इस प्रकार बताते हैं-गृहस्थ से आज्ञा लेकर साधु उसके उपाश्रय में निवास करे, तब वह शय्यातर गृहस्थ साधु के लिए भक्तिवश आहार आदि बनवाकर मुनि से लेने का आग्रह करे और मुनि ग्रहण करे तो शय्यातरपिण्ड-ग्रहण नामक दोष लगता है, और शय्यातर के नहीं लेने पर मुनि के प्रति उसके मन में रोष, दोष, अवज्ञा आदि का भाव आना सम्भव है। अतः ऐसा मुनिचर्या का जानकार शय्यादाता मिलना भी दुर्लभ है। (वृत्ति पत्रांक ३६८) ___Elaboration-The commentaries (both Churni and Vritti) explaining the background of this aphorism state-Some ascetic comes to a village and goes to a house to seek alms. The householder tells him that the village has ample facilities for ascetic-alms; why does he not stay there? The ascetic informs that although food is available, a place of stay is not. The aphorism is in reply to this doubt.
For a faultless place of stay the three primary requirements are(1) Prasuk-it should be free of aadhakarmik (made intentionally for ascetics) and other such faults; (2) Unchh-it should be free of secondary faults like thatching; and (3) Eshaniya-it should be free शय्यैषणा : द्वितीय अध्ययन
