४०. जस्सेते अगणिकम्म-समारंभा परिण्णाया भवंति से हु मुणी परिण्णायकम्मे । त्ति बेमि ।
॥ चउत्थो उद्देसओ सम्मत्तो ॥
३९. जो. अग्निकाय के जीवों पर शस्त्र प्रयोग करता है, वह इन आरंभ-समारंभ सम्बन्धी क्रियाओं से निवृत्त नहीं हो पाता अर्थात् वह हिंसा के दुःखद परिणामों से छूट नहीं पाता।
जो अग्निकायिक जीवों पर शस्त्र का प्रयोग नहीं करता है, वास्तव में वह आरंभ का ज्ञाता - त्यागी है।
यह जानकर मेधावी मनुष्य स्वयं अग्नि शस्त्र का समारंभ न करे, दूसरों से अग्नि शस्त्र का समारंभ न करवाए तथा उसका समारंभ करने वाले दूसरों का अनुमोदन न करे । ४०. जिसने यह अग्नि-सम्बन्धी समारंभ भली प्रकार ज्ञात कर लिया है, वही मुनि है, वही परिज्ञातकर्मा है।
- ऐसा मैं कहता हूँ ।
॥ चतुर्थ उद्देशक समाप्त ॥
39. He who uses weapons on fire-bodied beings is not free of these sins (the blemish of harming and killing living beings).
He who does not use weapons on fire-bodied beings is free of these sins.
Therefore knowing about this (the unexpressed sufferings of beings) one (wise man ) should not employ fire - weapon himself, neither make others do so, nor approve of others doing so.
40. He who has properly understood the violence related to fire is a parijnat-karma muni (a discerning sage or an ascetic who with a discerning attitude abandons violence).
