IP A MAN HAS NEVER HEARD OF THE NAME CONCERNED, THEN, ON SEEING THE Gavaya, HE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE THE IDEA THAT
'I HAD HEARD THE NAME OF THIS ANIMAL'.-(1567)
COMMENTARY.
Aviddhalarna has asserted as follows:-"Of the Name, the Man has a general (vague) notion through Verbal Cognition, and it is the definite iden of it that is brought about by Analogy".
This view is set forth in the following

“WHEN ONE HAS HEARD THE ANALOGICAL STATEMENT, AND PERCEIVES THE SIMILARITY, HE COGNISES THE RELATION (OF THE Name) IN CONNECTION WITH THE PARTIOULAR

The word 'upayuktopa, etc. etc. '-is one who has heard the statement of analogy.-(1568)

* THROUGH VERBAL ASSERTION, THE MAN COGNISES THE RELATION IN A GENERAL WAY; AND THROUGH ANALOGY HE COGNISES IT AS
