This sage was succeeded by Vajrasena, four of whose pupils founded four different sakhas. Among these the Chandra Sakha ( branch) was specially rich in fruit in the shape of pupils; and of these was 1. Vijayasinha. This sage, a resident of Chandravati, deserted the Chaityavasin heresy, under the guidance of Chandraprabhusuri, and passed over to the Purnimagachchha. As was succeeded by 2. Abhayadevasuri. 3. Chandrasuri. -4. Devasuri. 5. Tilakaprabha, 6. Viraprabba and Somaprabba . Our anthor, Ajitaprabhasuri, was a pupil of Virapra bha, and was consecrated as successor to that teacher by Tilakaprabha. Before his elevation he had been the author of the Bhavanasarasastra. He was suri when he wrote this Santinatbacharitra. 5,121. Ajitasinhasuri-- See previous Index of Authors. Raula Samarasinha, converted by him, gave a decree against the slaughter of any living thing in his dominions; and the fame for piety of Sana and other villages was still conspicuous, as shown by such observances as drinking only water that has been strained, and daily prayers, in consequence.
