Sense-e vidence cannot establish Inference.
EPISTEMOLOGY AND LOGIC. ever have that the connection between the major ( 16 ) and the middle or sign (anim, or fas) is necessary and universal ? For,
(a) Sense-perception (aa) cannot prove it in as much as universal connection is not a fact of experience. Experien.ce in can give only one particular fact and that only of the present moment and not of the long past nor of the distant future. The eye by fact of its exercising its functional activity only in the present reveals the objectivity of a particular thing here and now. But a universal truth goes infinitely beyond what the eye can give. Hence sense-perception cannot prove any necessary connection between the major (91827) and the minor (ga)--any universal proposition or Prutijna-(aifa ofati)!
(b) But here a prima facie objection might be raised to the effect that perception faci being both internal and external it includes intuition of reason which gives neces. sary and universal truth. Not even that,' thunders forth the thorough-going materialist; "there is no such thing as intuition
A Prima Facie objection raised and set aside.
