294 AN EARLY HISTORY OF ORISSA
Prof. N. N. Ghosh? opines that the Bharhut sculptured gateway bearing an inscription is about a century later than the time of Pushyamitra Śunga i. e. about the first quarter of the first Century B.C. And, hence Khāravela could not have flourished in the second Century B.C.
Conclusion
Looking to all the evidences enumerated above, we have to conclude that Khāravela did not flourish in the second Century B. C. and hence must be assigned a date in the first Century B. C., preferably in the last quarter of that Century.
