HERMANN KUHN
SUTRAS
The range of Total Perception - i.e. how much of reality we perceive by it and how clear this insight is - mirrors our degree of awareness of this ability. Yet we do not need special training to acquire this skill, we only need to remove the blocks that obstruct its operation.21
These blocks are caused by our very own presumptions, errors and misunderstandings. They are the stronger, the more intensely we project prejudices, inaccuracies etc. onto the world and the more we reject, neglect or postpone to correct them. If we want to expand the scope of what we perceive through Total Perception, we need to understand that it is entirely at our own discretion how fast and to what extent we remove these obstructions.
The karmic blocks that obstruct this ability also determine the clarity of our insights.
The range of Total Perception further depends on the channels we use to perceive our world. The bandwidth and features of these channels are described from Sutra 9 onwards.
Total Perception - pramana - is our very key to more advanced, superior levels of consciousness. Only Total Perception is fast enough to evaluate the multitude of new impressions we receive during an expansion of consciousness. Only Total Perception gives us the dreamlike certainty to select and amplify only those impulses that drive us to further unfoldment.
It is primarily the development of Total Perception - pramana - that opens our access to new areas of our consciousness and not the use of intellectual knowledge.
Intellectually analyzing new experiences is certainly of value. It can make us conscious of what we encountered, connect it to previous experiences and generally give us the confirmation and security that makes us continue on our chosen path.
21 KARMA - THE MECHANISM describes how to remove these blocks.
