What is Jainism ?
Mind is a relationship established between the soul and body, which is the action of the soul along a certain line.
No soul is disembodied unless it is liberated. Our philosophy teaches that the liberated soul can exist without form and without space, and has the highest consciousness of power, life, etc. Souls who die assume a body, but not an earthly body for they are liberated. We do not believe in materialism. We believe that spirits may appear as a vision, but we insist upon three conditions as necessary: First, that the vision appears one foot above the floor; second, it must appear in broad day light; third, it must not pass to shadow. (Being questioned, the speaker replied: ", myself, have seen such a vision.) The spirits which appear are usually those of spirits which cannot get away from earthly ties. Affection limits them to an earthly plane. (Being asked about recognizing friends who thus appear, he said: That the soul on an earthly plane recognizes only limited relationship, but if it passed to the higher plane it recognized universal relationship. (To a question, he replied that the spirit could return as a ministering spirit.)
