ईषद्विन म्रधृत कूर्परभागभाजि,
हस्ते
प्रसारितकरा गुलिकाश्रयेण ।
अङ्गुष्ठमूलमधिपश्चिमवामभागे, नाड्या प्रभञ्जनगते : सततं परीक्षा || V. ३ ।। (3) The physician should place the hand of the patient to be examined on his left hand by touching the internal pulse running through the patient's elbow, held slightly bent (Kurparabhagabhaji), with his three fingers-index finger, middle finger and ring finger (of his right hand). The examination of the pulse, having pravanjanagati (movement of air), should always be made at the base (root) of the thumb finger of the hand, at the lower part of the ankle of the foot, at the root of the ear, at the root of the nose, and at the front of the hole of the ear.

(4) First flows vata (air, i.e. the pulse of vata), in the middle flows the pulse of pitta (bile or fire) like that, at last flows the pulse of slesma (Phlegm); the pulse of Sannipata (typhoid or Tridosa) is indicated by the three combined characters (of vata, pitta, and Slesma).
