STUDIES IN BUDDHIST AND JAINA MONACHISM
(store-keeper of robes), Satiyaggahapaka1 (receiver of under-garments) and Civarabhajaka2 (distributor of robes).

The only duty of the Civarapatiggahapaka was to receive gifts of robes made to the Sangha by the laity at the end of Vassavasa. It was simply the negligence of this officer which led to the formation of the office of Civaranidahaka. As such the sole duty of this person was to take care of robes made over to the Sangha. The next two officers, the Bhandagarika and the Satiyaggahapaka were most probably appointed to assist the Civaranidahaka in his duty. The only duty of the last officer, the Civarabhajaka, was to deal out the robes acquired by the Order.
(iii) Officers in-charge of lodging places
Senasanaggaha paka, Senā sanapa ññāpaka, etc. :-A reference is made to as many as four officers who were entrusted with one or other work as regards the lodging places. They were Sena sanaggahapaka (receiver of viharas, etc.), Senāsanaрaññā paka (distributor of lodging places), Äramikapesaka (overseer of ārā mas) and Navakammika (superviser of buildings).
The sole business of the Senasanaggahapaka was to accept viharas, etc. on behalf of the Sangha and that of the Sena sanaрaññāpaka to allot a separate lodging place to each and every member of the Order.4 Aramikapesaka was perhaps an officer who supervised the work of Aramikas, the servants employed by the donor to keep the arama tip top. Navakammika was a permanent officer appointed by the Order to supervise the construction or repair of buildings.
Besides, a mention is made of officers who were concerned with one or other thing of daily life. They were Pattaggāhāpaka' (distributor or alms-bowl), Bhajana-Varika (officer in charge of utensils), Appamattavissajjaka (disposer of trifles) and the like.
