पाण्दव, पान्दव, पाम्दव इत्यादि.
संस्कृत, प्राकृत आदि भाषाओं में उच्चार शुद्धि पर सबसे ज्यादा जोर दिया गया है. उच्चारण अगर गलत है तो अर्थ बदल जाने की पूरी संभावना रहती है. उदाहरण के रूप में संस्कृत भाषा में एक शब्द है सूरि. इसका अर्थ है आचार्य. अगर सही उच्चारण न करते हुए इसको सुरी के रूप में उच्चारण किया जाए तो इसका अर्थ हो जाएगा देवी. कितना भारी अर्थ परिवर्तन! इस से समज में आएगा कि उच्चारण शुद्धि का कितना महत्त्व है. अब pandava शब्द का सही उच्चारण करना है तो क्या किया जाए? इसके लिए कुछ संकेत बनाने पडेंगे. ये संकेत आपको यहाँ देखने को मिलेंगे. जैसे कि ड् के लिए d अ और आ के लिए a और ā एवं ट वर्गीय अनुस्वार [] के लिए लिखा गया है. इन संकेतों की सहायता से पांडव शब्द pāndava के रूप में लिखा जाएगा.
नागरी लिपि में कुछ वर्ण ऐसे हैं जिनके लिए अंग्रेजी वर्णमाला में स्वतंत्र रूप से कोई वर्ण नहीं है. ऐसा भी होता है कि नागरी लिपि के दो भिन्न वर्णों के लिए अंग्रेजी में एक ही वर्ण का प्रयोग होता है जैसे कि त और ट के लिए अंग्रेजी में ही लिखा जाएगा; अइ और ऐ के लिए अंग्रेजी में ai ही लिखा जाता है. इस स्थिति में पाठक शुद्ध उच्चारण के लिए कुछ निर्णय नहीं कर सकता. इन सभी संभवित आपत्तियों को प्रतिक्रमण सूत्र सह विवेचन भाग

More emphasis is given to correctness of pronunciation in languages like sanskrta, prākrta. If pronunciation is wrong, then there will be complete possibility of change in meaning. For example सूरि [sūri] is a word in sanskrta language. Its meaning is ācārya [preceptor]. If it is wrongly pronunced as सुरी [suri], then its meaning becomes devi [goddess]. How much change in meaning! By this it is understood how much importance is for correctness of pronunciation. What should be done if the word pandava is to be pronunced correctly. For this, some symbols should be used. These symbols [diacritic marks] are seen here. As like d for ङ्, a and ā for अ and आ and n for [nasal sound of ट [ta] group are used here. With the help of these symbols, the word पांडव would be written as pāndava.
Preface
There are some letters in nagari script for which there are no independent letters in English alphabet. It so happens that only one letter is used in English for two different letters of nāgari script; such as for तू and ट् only t is written in English, for अइ and ए only ai is written in English. In this state, reader cannot decide anything for correct pronunciation. To avoid all these possible unevenness, all attempts are made here. By using the symbols [diacritic marks] given below,
