Also in 1989, he addressed the World Conference on Religions for Peace in Melbourne, Australia. He spoke about the need to protect the animal kingdom and our natural environment. He explained that all living beings equally share the right to life.
An interesting fact for the readers is that at Melbourne both Sushil Kumar Ji and Amrender Muni Ji survived on milk and bananas for 2 days since non vegetarian food was being served. Then Sushil Kumar Ji gave a lecture on vegetarianism and after that vegetarian food was served at the conference venue!
Shri Sushil Kumar Ji was revered by Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims as much as he was loved by the Jains. Because he had established himself as a tolerant saint with equal regard for all faiths, people of all faiths loved and respected him. It was this quality that made him acceptable as a mediator in issues of national concern where people of different faiths were involved.
He persuaded Muslim leaders to sit in negotiations with Hindu leaders until a consensus was reached in the case of Lord Rama's birth place (Rama Janmabhumi) at Ayodhya, This issue, popularly known as the Ayodhya - Babri Masjid issue in 1990 to 1991 had threatened to tear India apart.
In 1990, he was an honored guest at the Global Conference for Human Survival in Moscow. More than 1200 individuals from 70 countries travelled to the USSR to take part in this historic gathering and were present to participate in Sushil Kumar Ji's meditation and to hear his talk on the need for nonviolence. At the conference he met with Mikhail Gorbachev and discussed the issues related to the establishment of world peace and global cooperation.
Rev Shri Amrender Muni Ji was with Acharya Sushil Kumar Ji when he traveled to the USSR. He tells us that there was heavy security at the entrance and they were not allowed to carry anything inside.
