Acharya Sushil Kumar Ji successfully motivated the late Sikh leader Tara Singh to participate in an open and peaceful dialogue with the government. The story goes that Tara Singh Ji decided to undertake a fast unto death, to demand for a separate Punjab suba. This was at the time when some China - India hostilities were taking place. Worried and irritated Prime Minister Nehru spoke to Sushil Kumar Ji. He said that it was very sad that at a time of crisis the saints were not coming forward to help their country.
On hearing this Sushil Kumar Ji decided to walk all the way to Amritsar and talk to Tara Singh Ji . Sushil Kumar Ji stayed at Bhagwan Mahavir Jain Bhawan near Jallianwala Bagh. He called Tara Singh Ji there and spoke to him. As Sushil Kumar Ji spoke, Tara Singh Ji started crying and became very emotional. He decided to quit his fast. Sushil Kumar Ji made him put it down on paper and sign it and sent this agreement to Delhi along with a message for Nehruji that next time he should not doubt the capabilities of the saints in the country.
In 1986, the late Akali leader Sant Longowal and the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi met to solve the terrorist problem plaguing Punjab. This accomplishment is largely attributed to Sushil Kumar Ji who convinced the terrorist groups of Punjab to honor their compromise with the government.
When Pope John Paul's visit to India was strongly opposed, Sushil Kumar Ji reminded his countrymen that India has a long standing tradition of welcoming all individuals regardless of their religion or belief.
In August of 1989, Acharya Sushil Kumar Ji was invited to inaugurate and preside over the World Hindu Conference in Britain. As Hindus regard him as one of their spiritual leaders, they enthusiastically embraced his notion of ahinsa (nonviolence) and vowed to join him in propagating the virtues of meditation, vegetarianism and unity.
