Samvar: Actions to stop or block negativity. The path to freedom from karma is called “samvar”. Nirjara: Actions to destroy karma. Karma is postulated as particles which adhere to the soul. Karma can be destroyed only partially by these actions called nirjara. Eg fasting destroys some karma. Through penance, mantra repetition and reading of the scriptures and dhyana we can loosen the bonds of karma Bandh: Actions that create karma which weighs us down. Those causes which tie the atman tightly to the karma are called “bandh”. Moksha: Total freedom from all karma. This is the ideal state that one aspires to; the state of liberation.
Jains believe that Gyan (Right Knowledge), Darshan (Right Faith and Vision) and Charitra (Right Conduct and Right Living) are required on the road to peace and liberation.
