Beyond Samli....
After staying in Samli for a few days, they proceeded towards Saharanpur. On the way they came to a small village. The monks went and begged for alms and food from the villagers.
Amar was also feeling hungry and asked his Gurudev for food. Shri Shukal Chand Ji Maharaj replied that they could not give the food that they had begged to a "householder" (non monk) and asked him to go and buy some food from the village. Unfortunately it was a very small place and did not have any shops where he could buy food. By this time he was feeling really hungry.
After some time a woman whose son was working in the fields went to give some bread to her child. On seeing this Gurudev told young Amar to go and ask her for some food.
It was very difficult for Amar to do so...he had never asked a stranger for food. Seeing him hesitate, Gurudev asked him: Son, what are you thinking?
Amar replied: Gurudev, if you say so, I will go and ask her, but what if she says no?
Gurudev said: Don't worry, she will not say no...just go and ask.
Amar obediently went to the lady but was hesitant to ask anything. He just stood there.
The lady, seeing him standing there, asked him what he wanted. Amar told her that he was hungry. The lady hesitated and said that she was taking the bread for her son who was labouring in the fields. So Amar said: I understand, your son is working hard in the fields, he must be very hungry, please give it to him.
The woman walked away, but after walking a few steps she turned back and went and sat next to Amar. Very lovingly she told him: You are hungry and you are also like my own son. Come, eat this food.
