हो सकता है। और आज अणु के विभक्त होने से अनेक नवीन आविष्कार हुए हैं। इनमें सबसे प्रमुख अणु बम्ब है।
यह भी सिद्ध किया गया है कि अणु भिन्न-भिन्न सूक्ष्म कणों का बना हुआ है। उसकी रचना तीन प्रकार के कणों से बतायी जाती है-(१) प्रोटीन (घनात्मक), (२) इलैक्टोन (ऋणात्मक, (३) और न्यूट्रौन (उदासीन)।
अणु को विभक्त करने की प्रक्रिया में वैज्ञानिक देख रहे हैं कि उनमें उपर्युक्त केवल तीन मूल कण (Fundamental Particles) ही नहीं है पर करीब २० तरह के अन्य कण हैं।
अणु को विभक्त करने के प्रयोगों से एक विचित्र स्थिति सामने आई है-जिसका चित्रण विज्ञान की पुस्तकों में मिलता है।
डाल्टन के अनुसार जो अणु अविभाज्य था वह आज अन्य ऐसे अत्यन्त सूक्ष्म कणों से बना हुआ माना गया है जो विद्युत परिपूर्ण हैं और जिनको इलैक्ट्रोन कहते हैं।
__ जैन-पदार्थ विज्ञान का परमाणु अत्यन्त सूक्ष्म और अविभाज्य हे । वास्तव में डाल्टन का अणु स्कंध रहा। मूल परमाणुओं का विभाजन असंभव है।
रासायनिक विद्वान व्यवहार में अब भी अणु को ही द्रव्य का अन्तिम अंश समझते
The problem of breaking the atom down into its component particles has progessed from what appeared at first to be a simple, logical solution involving only three fundamental praticles, namely, electrons, protons and noutrons, into an entangled, obscure situation, embodying a multiplicity of particles. The known and probable particles coming from the atom total at least 20, with others likely to be added before some resolution is made of the present number. ........ It is much easier to return to an earlier hypothesis in which the nucleus is considered as being composed of two building blocks, protons and neutrons, which are collectively called nucleons.
