8. Contact with the wise procures commendation and a happy destiny. Hence the farsighted should always keep such company.
खइणं पमाणं वत्तं च, देज्जा अज्जति जो धणं।
सद्धम्मवक्कदाणं तु, अक्खयं अमतं मतं।।१।। 9. धन-सम्पत्ति के अर्जन तथा दान कर्ता को काल संदेश देता है कि यह सम्पत्ति मर्यादित समय तक रहने वाली और अन्त में नाश होने वाली है। जबकि सद्धर्ममय वाणी का अंश दान भी अक्षय और अमृतमय होता है।
9. Giving away wealth and property in charity is less worthy than uttering virtuous and pious words, for the wealth and its effects are transitory while the spiritually pregnant utterances are truly lasting in virtue.
पुण्णं तित्थमुवागम्म, पेच्चा भोज्जाहि तं फलं।
सद्धम्मवारिदाणेणं, खिप्पं सुज्झति माणसं।।10।।
10. पुण्यतीर्थ को प्राप्त कर और उससे प्राप्त हितकारी फलों का परलोक में उपभोग करोगे। (उस फल की प्रसवभूमि) मानस/हृदय सद्धर्म रूपी जल दान (सिंचन) से शीघ्र शुद्ध-पवित्र होता है।
10. The outcome of such utterances is attainment of virtuous and holy regions hereafter. Such utterances sublimate our mind and heart.
सब्भाववक्कविवसं, सावज्जारम्भकारकं।
दुम्मित्तं तं विजाणेज्जा, उभयो लोगविणासणं।।11।। 11. अपने वक्र—विपरीत स्वभाव से विवश होकर सावद्यारम्भ-आस्रवजन्य पाप कर्म करने वाले को दुर्मित्र समझना चाहिए। ऐसे दर्मित्रों के संसर्ग से दोनों (इह-पर) लोक बिगड़ जाते हैं।
11. Those who enhance their Karmic field, compelled by their very nature and thus add to their sins, should be taken to be enemies. Such a company is bound to ruin our present and the existence to be.
सम्मत्तणिरयं धीरं, सावज्जारम्भवज्जकं। तं मित्तं सुठु सेवेज्जा, उभयो लोकसुहावह।।12।।
