Foreword
I feel immense pleasure in writing a foreword to the book entitled Acharyashri Anandashankar Dhruva : Darshan ane Chintan authored by Dr. Dilip Charan.
Dr. Charan did his Doctorate on Anandashankar Dhruva long back. But he did not stop there. His thirst of knowledge inspired him to make in depth study on various works of Dhruva from different angles. As per my knowledge. this work is an outcome of seven years long deep study and sincere efforts of the author after his Doctorate.
This is a very scholarly and extraordinary work on great versatile personality Anandashankar Dhruva. Shri Anandashankar Dhruva was an outstanding thinker, erudite scholar and great writer in the field of Philosophy, Literature and Religion. He was known Advaitic scholar as well as profound scholar of all the systems of Indian and Western philosophy. He was not a dogmatist, but very open-minded thinker and a writer. His contribution to Indian philosophical literature is remarkable. His writings on any subject reveal depth, reasoning and clarity which is rarest among the rare. His writings are not limited to just Philosophy and Religion but cover vast field of Indian culture and literature. So far very little research work has been done to highlight on various aspects of Anandashankar Dhruva's writings.
Dr. Charan has done a commendable job by authoring this book, studying almost all books and articles written by A.B. Dhruva. In this sense it is unique in its own way. This scholarly work is first of its kind in Gujarati language. This exhaustive work covers almost all main aspects of A.B.Dhruva: His life, background of his literary thinking and creation, philosophical thinking, evaluation of his writings on Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and different systems of Indian Philosophy, Religions, Poetics, Aesthetics and Western philosophy. While writing this book, the author has left no stone unturned. The thorough study of this work reveals that, the author has applied all possible research methodologies such as historical, descriptive, analytical, critical, comparative, speculative and intuitive. The chapter nine is a critical evaluation of A. B. Dhruva's way of thinking and writing and chapter ten is on appreciation of his contribution. Both these chapters are written in a balancing and impartial manner. Undoubtedly, these chapters have enhanced the value of this work.
