________________ all the necessary information from various sources and three years of continuous reseach, Acharya composed the grammar of the Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. This work is still held in high esteem. When the work was completed the king celebrated the historical event. The book was placed on the king's elephant and a colourful procession was held. More than 300 copies of this book were made and sent to different places in India and abroad. Regular examinations were being conducted which were based on this book and prizes were awarded to the successful candidates. After nearly 900 years this grammmar is still an important source in the study of Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. The roots of Gujarati lie in the ancient Prakrit and Apbhram sha languages. Hemchandra discussed the Apbhramsha in his book; sustaining an important research work. To explain and illustrate the complexity of grammar it was necessary to provide examples. Hemchandra solved this problem in his own unique style. His book on the history of Solanki kings was also composed in shlokas - illustrating the intricacies of grammar. In itself this was heralded a great achievement. This book is called Dwayashrya and it is written in two parts. The first part is in Sanskrit and it explaines the rules of Sanskrit grammmar while the second part which is in Prakrit explaines the rules of Prakrit grammar. Part two narrates the life of king Kumarpal who became king after the death of Siddharaj. 162 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
