[ પંચમ તત્ર સ્વ-રજિયાઃ કૃમિ-ગૌ-શા-ગુરવાર -
स्यक्षा नासिकया पुनः शतपदी-मत्कोट-लिक्षादयः ॥५॥ अक्षणा स्युश्चतुरिन्द्रियाश्च मशका भृक्षाः पतङ्गादय
स्तिर्यग्योनिभवा जल-स्थल-खगाः शेषास्तथा नारकाः। गीर्वाणा मनुजाः पुनः प्रभणिताः श्रोत्रेण पञ्चेन्द्रियाः पञ्चाक्षा अपि संश्यसंज्ञिविधयः संज्ञा च चिन्तामतिः ॥६॥
-પુરમ્ | There are five senses, the skin, the tongue, the nose, the eye and the ear. Touch, taste, smell, colour, and sound are their respective objects. Worms, leeches, conches, shells, etc., possess the first two senses, while centipedes, bugs, lice, etc., have the first three senses. Mosquitoes, wasps, moths, and the like are the four-sensed. The Tiryachs namely the aquatic, the terrestrial and the aerial, Narakas (denizens of hell ), gods and human beings have five senses. The five-sensed are of two kinds-the Sanjnin and the Asanjnin. Sanjna means power of thinking. ( 5-6 )
“ વચા, જિહા, ઘાણ, નેત્ર અને કર્ણ એમ પાંચ ઈન્દ્રિયે છે અને એના અનુક્રમે સ્પર્શ, રસ, ગબ્ધ, રૂપ અને શબ્દ વિષય છે. તેમાં કૃમિ, જળ, શંખ, શુકિત વિગેરે ત્વચા અને જીભ એમ બે ઇન્દ્રિયવાળા; કાનખજુર, મકેડે, માંકડ, લિખ આદિ નાસિકા સહિત ત્રણ ઈન્દ્રિયવાળા; મચ્છર, ભમરા અને પતંગ આદિ ચક્ષુ સહિત ચાર ઈન્દ્રિયવાળા; અને જળચર, સ્થળચર અને ખેચર એ તિય ચે તેમજ નારકી, દેવ અને મનુષ્ય કર્ણયિયુકત પંચેન્દ્રિય જાણવા. પંચેન્દ્રિય બે પ્રકારના છે-સંસી અને અસંસી. સંજ્ઞા અર્થાત મનન કરવાની શક્તિ.
